    Question Can you imagine...

If we actually took out Saddam and several of his leaders on the first night
with the limited attacks we saw, and all of a sudden the whole military
    surrenders?

Although remote, it's not impossible - but think about the absolute
humiliation and embarrassment that would fall on France and Germany in
particular, but also Liberal Wusses® like Daschle. It would be the ultimate
    slap in the face!

    1) Minimal or no US troop casualties
    2) Minimal Economic Costs
    3) Minimal Iraqi military casualties
    4) Minimal or no Iraq civilian casualties
    5) Objectives achieved

Just some thoughts that came to me when they mentioned the 'decapitation'
moves and the targeting of Saddam and the top levels of the government.

Did you notice that Saddam doesn't quite look like Saddam in that television appearance? It may be him, but I know he has a lot of look-alikes, and the guy in the video may not be him.

It may have been filmed months in advance.

I agree Palooka.. it may very well have been him, but it sure looked 'different'.

I thought he looked way sexy with glasses and a grey mustache. Much better than that other Saddam.

CBS: 'Senior Officials' Think Saddam May Not Have Survived
    Thu Mar 20 2003 10:33:00 ET

"I am being told by several senior officials not to take that taped speech Saddam gave last night as proof that he survived the attack," CBS NEWS reporter David Martin said on air.

"They say the evidence that put him in the bunker last night was very reliable, and they are confident that the cruise missiles and bunker-busting bombs that were fired at that bunker last night hit the target. So now, intelligence experts are studying the tape to determine if it is really Saddam, or a body double which he is known to use from time to time. And they are running a computerized voice analysis, comparing that speech with known recordings of Saddam's voice. But that's a process that takes awhile. So we may not have a quick answer."

"There is considerable belief in this government that they may, in fact, have gotten Saddam."

if they actaully got Saddam already major props to the CIA for the quick turn around on intelligence... where the hell were they before 9/11? And I would have to give props to this presidency... it just did what 2 prior presidencies before it could not, killed Saddam.

As I've explained before, the CIA and other intelligence agencies were crippled by the previous administration. There was not enough time between Bush's inauguration and 9/11 to completely resuscitate our intelligence community.

Now, that's a good question, Hale. By the way, the White House thinks that it was Saddam in the TV broadcast. However, I wouldn't be surprised if it was previously recorded.

We didn't do it 3 months ago, because unlike what protesters would have you believe, we wanted to let the UN *work*.

The big question in my mind is whether we will learn from the whole UN fiasco. If the US has learned the utter futility of dealing with the UN, then perhaps the wait was worthwhile. But if we go back to the UN for anything after this, then the wait was just more time for Saddam to prepare to kill our soldiers. In my mind, that blood is on the hands of the "peace" protestors who demanded that we give more time, or submit to the UN. As usual, those who desperately want to avoid conflict end up causing the real damage.

Sounds like the UN will help manage the humanitarian aid after the war is over, and just this evening Tony Blair announced that the Iraqi oil profits will go into a UN trust fund to be used by Iraq alone.

That sort of role seems about right for the UN. They should have no role in security issues in the future (other than perhaps publishing "opinions"...)

    "Iraqi Regime Losing Control"

Think that is possibly because we may have killed Saddam on the first night?
