Interesting - Online Gaming & Betting

On-line gaming, a significant reason for the growth of broadband in recent years, may slowly becoming a more expensive hobby. According to CNN, gamers will soon be able to bet against foes while competing online in the World War II action game "Return to Castle Wolfenstein." Id software, Balance, Inc., and a website by the name of YouPlayGames.com have teamed together to see if game players will be interested in intertwining a bit of gambling with their game playing. Players in Arizona, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Nevada, Tennessee and Vermont won't be able to take part due to state laws restricting "fee-based online gaming".

Not against games in general, against gambling.

I can see the headlines now:

Teenager loses thousands of dollars on online bet! The teen, who we may not identify due to being a minor, bet $5,000 using his mothers VISA card. He bet on "3L173 F1gH73r" and his team to win their match against team "W3 OWNZ U". It appears that the player "M3 1 B@D @55" intentionally 'fragged' his fellow "3L173 F1gH73r" teammates in an apparent "fixing" scandal.

Why fee-based online gambling is illegal in Nevada, of all places, is beyond me. I am a 30 minute drive away from a township full of cathouses and walking distance from casinos, but I can't gamble online. Lame.

Betting with such a game as Return to Castle Wolfenstien? I hope they are doing it in a controled environment. With the number of cheaters out there it will be a bet of "My hackz are more l33t than your hackz".

Online games get hacked all to hell even when there isn't any money riding on the outcome. Imagine what happens when you turn hacking games from a hobby into a business. I'll pass, thanks.
