Just bought a new vehicle today ...

The fiance and I opted to trade in my '99 Oldsmobile Alero for a new Saturn Ion sedan. Little stuff was starting to break (interior trim and cosmetics, as well as some electrical) on the Alero, so it was time for it to go.

The Ion has about the same displacement and horsepower as the Alero (2.2 l, 140 hp) in a subcompact. This little sucker is quick. It's the same engine they are putting in the base Grand Ams now as well. So, we are now a two-Saturn family. She has a 1997 SL sedan. :-)

I thought they outlawed "granny" cars like the Saturn. Who knew?

Actually the Ion is pretty sporty.. I doesn't have much horsepower though at 140... of course I can't talk, I only have ~155.. but if I had more I would just drive faster than I do already..

Both our cars will be paid for in Feb / March of next year. 1999 VW Beetle GLS & 1999 Dodge Stratus ES.

So far the wife has the replacement for her Beetle down to:

    Lexus RX330
    BMW 330 XI
    Saab 9-3
    Audi A4

She eliminated the VW Passat recently because she didn't feel it was all that much of an "upgrade"... Since all of the above are going to be $40K plus with the configurations and options... I'll probably be driving the Stratus awhile longer because I can't shell out $80K for new cars all at once! LOL I actually want the RX330... but I was impressed with the Saab 9-3.

I like my Stratus (V6, Auto Stick, Leather - Loaded) but I HATE American Engineering. This car has been very good to me ($72,000) and still rides / drives fantastic. But it has the American Engineering Ques.. rattles and minor things like that. My wife and I generally go to auto shows quite a bit (Philadelphia, Lehigh Valley) and just go to the American cars... sit in them and close the doors. Then do the same with foreign names like Toyota, Honda, BMW, Lexus, and hell - even Hyundai! The American cars don't have that solid-seal feeling. I closed the door on a Buick Rendevous and thought the interior was going to fall out after the door came unhinged! The whole damn car rattled when I closed the door. UGH! And it's not American workers, as most of the foreign cars are built by Americans. It's American ENGINEERING.

    I want a Hummer H2 actually - So I can support terrorism. </sarcasm>

Last month I bought a new car after my '96 Pontiac Grand Prix took a dump in a big way after a very meager 83k miles. The diagnosis was a hole in the cylinder wall, most likely due to faulty casting. It was a shame because the car itself was in great shape, and I kept it in tip-top running order. My girlfriend has a '00 Saturn L series, a horrendous little crap wagon that extolls the benefits of "safety", "reliability", and "good gas mileage". I care little for those things, so I bought myself a Ford Mustang GT. Now the only thing I won't pass on the highway is a gas station.

They are definitely "different". Both it and the Infiniti version are quite nice.

BTW.. if anyone likes the Porsche Cayenne , just wait and buy the VW version - they are bascically the same vehicle since VW/Porsche designed it together. Same goes for the upcoming Audi version of it as well.

It looks like a suppository version of the PT Cruiser.

I've always thought the PT cruiser looks like an old style bread wagon.

I kinda like the new Nissan 350Z. It reminds me a bit of my next car (in my dreams, anyway), the Porsche Boxter.
