    Linux Server Operational

If anyone is still interested in BF1942, I've been playing around with the beta Linux server, which seems to be pretty stable these days. I even got the remote console program working with it. I probably won't be running the server full time, as it is a bit of a processor hog (although my two hyperthreading 2.4 GHz Xeons handle it well), but I can turn it on whenever people want to play on it. I'd like to get some people on it this weekend to see how stable it is with more than one player. The server name is August Knights BF1942, and the IP is 12.165.52.152. The server is running version 1.4 with Road to Rome (so you need your Road to Rome CD in the drive to get on the server). I've even installed the new Battle of Britain map, which looks great. The server is up right now if anyone wants to jump on.

Wow, there are 18 players on my server right now, and it's not even breaking a sweat. 30% of one out of four processors (hyperthreading causes one Xeon processor to behave like two) and 5% of the memory are being used by the process.

I'm D/Ling the map and idling on my TS server as I type this. I'm also going to be hanging out with NR and some other familiar faces on their new voice chat proggy, perhaps play a little Raven Shield with that server, but I'll definitely be giving your server a workout at some point this evening, Pal.

Well, the BF1942 server has not comprised the stability of my box at all, so I will leave it up 24/7 for now. Anyone interested in meeting up to test it out sometime this week? I'm even thinking about installing the Desert Combat alpha (which is pretty damned cool), if anyone wants to give it a try. Trying out the AC-130 Spectre is worth the time it takes to install the mod, alone.
