    Apocalyptic film

Help me build my list... here's what I have thought of so far:

    12 Monkeys
    28 Days Later
    A Boy and His Dog
    Def-Con 4
    Mad Max
    MM Beyond Thunderdome
    Night of the Comet
    On the Beach
    Planet of the Apes
    Road Warrior
    Tank Girl
    The Andromeda Strain
    The Day After
    The Last Man on Earth
    The Omega Man
    The Stand

I'm looking for films in which most of the world's population has been wiped out.

There are a lot of films which threaten apocalypse, and a lot of futuristic films which have an apocalyptic look, but there doesn't seem to be all that many that go the distance. What have I forgotten?

    Damnation Alley
    Neon City

    One of my all-time favorites:
Day of the Triffids (nothing like 99% of the worlds population going blind overnight to make society crumble).
City of Villains, the Justice server.

28 Days Later is a great horror flick. I saw it a couple weeks ago in Vegas, and I was pleasantly surprised.

The most recent ones that come to mind are:

    Reign of Fire
    Waterworld
    Terminator series
    The Matrix

Can't think of many others, but if you really want apocalyptic films, check out the Japanese Anime market.

Terminator during the age of the machines would be the sort of film that I am looking for... Terminator the movie is actually a "pre-apocolyptic" film.

The Matrix is a "dark future" film. Humans are alive, but their lives are twisted. I'm kind of on the fence on that one.

Reign of Fire and Waterworld are perfect examples...

Even mentioning that abomination of a movie should be grounds for extreem torture with a feather at least. For shame, Hylander

I've never seen it (shocker!) In it, have most humans been
    obliterated?

Waterworld reminded me that The Postman isn't on the list. I've heard the book is much better, though.

In the book, Battlefield Earth (which was a good book but a horrible movie) almost all the human race was wiped out by a chemical bomb warped in from whatever universe the big nasty aliens came from (I forget their name). They controlled several "universes" and decided the resources on earth could be exploited except for all those dirty mamals.

But to answer your question, yes most all the human race was gone. Was one of the best "alien invasion" scenerios I have read. No mucking around, they wanted our dirt to mine so they wasted us and moved in. No chance for anyone to insert a computer virus into their mothership with some magic Apple notebook.

Deep Impact. A killer comet movie starring Morgan Freeman as the president.

Deep Impact is mostly a "Pre-Apocalyptic" movie.

Most of the film takes place prior to that big f-in wave. I'm looking for films which take place in a world that's already been blown to bits, not films that take place in a world ABOUT to be granted the final smack-down.

BTW - you down with the Lan Party this Saturday? Get CS loaded, Serj.
