ColorThumbsUp Delivered today, to be built this weekend!

Well my components arrived from Newegg.com today:

    Intel P4 2.4C
    2 X 512mb of Crucial PC3200 DDR
    ASUS P800P Deluxe motherboard
    ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
    120GB Maxtor 7200 RPM w/ 8mb cache hard drive

A couple of ANTEC rounded IDE cables and an ANTEC rounded floppy cable (my current floppy cable hasn't worked right in a year so I figure I may as well finally replace it, even though I never use a floppy drive!)

Now you can start making donations to my Paypal account using Scott@Husted.cc $1050.00 I spent, so all donations appreciated!

    Hehe... are you giddy yet?

I got a care package from Xoxide today.. some UV reactive fans, cable wrap, UV paint, and fan filters. I'm waiting for a laptop cd drive and converter from Directron (I'm using a smaller footprint drive because the big guys collide with my memory chips on the mac case.

What case are you getting to put your parts in?

I've purchased a few items from Directron, I think my removeable Lian-Li hard drive cases.

I'm rebuilding my current PC, so I'm re-using my 3dCool Tornado 1000 case. It has an Antec 410 PS in it. Then I'll reuse the DVD player and CD-RW as well.

The internals will then be transferred to my Linux box to finally retire the Slot Celeron 400.

    ASUS motherboard! Ack!*dies*
I hope it's one without the PROMISE controllers...those things gave me so much trouble once...I'll never forgive them

I've been using a Promise ULTRA card in my current box for over a year now without a single problem. =)

So far, my last 3 motherboards have been AOpen, ASUS, Epox, and now ASUS again. I've never had a problem with any of them.

ASUS motherboards are top of the Intel line right now, Garret.

No, you get me wrong Squid. Must differentiate between ASUS motherboards, and the chipsets they use. It's not the motherboard, or the company I have a problem with.
In my experience, Promise controllers have given me trouble.
Many good companies including Abit (My personal top of the heap Have you seen their Nforce boards!!!) use promise controllers. In fact the abit board I'm using now has one I believe.
But the combination of ASUS boards and promise controllers, has done me wrong in the past.
and unfortunately ASUS uses that brand (not the same model. Note) in all their motherboards.
You can get around using them. But it takes some fancy work, and some non IDE devices.

Anyhow the bottom line is, unless you really bust your ass with the promise controller drivers problems arise.

I've got a Promise controller on my Gigabyte board...no problems.

I've got another Promise controller on an ASUS board that I'm about to install... I'll keep everyone apprised as to my progress.
