STEAM client and the CS v1.6

I have downloaded and configured the updated Counter-Strike v1.6 I am very impressed with the new menus and font placement. It really looks great. The new weapons and Shield are very cool as well. And believe it or not, the small tweaks to the graphics are noticible as well. It still looks like the old mod-ed-quake engine, but alot better. Has anyone else performed this install yet? Would anyone like to play this new version on a small AK only server? Let me know your thoughts.

I'm not going to install it unless it's determined that that is what they're going to be using at the Lan party in a couple of weeks.

It will not be used at the LAN party on the 27th. Verison 1.5 of either the Counter-Strike retail or Half-Life with the downloaded Counter-Strike mod will be used. From what Franks&Beans told me, it's becuase of the Authentication issue that is based off of Steam based connections.

I no longer have an extra TV

...Besides, when I go to a lanparty it isn't to play console games...

I will bring a TV with me for one of the xbox's. I just need a second one, then we could do a 4 on 4 Team deathmatch or Capture the flag. That would be fun. Even squidly would enjoy it! I asked Franks&Beans what he thought of the idea, I'm still waiting to hear back from him.

25$ to play a game that is almost 6yrs old....hmmmmmmm I don't think so....... XBOX baby! Or I may have a (special) copy of the PC HALO by the time the lan party come around.

The age of the game is irrelevent. It's the player-v-player competition.

I wouldn't mind bringing my Xbox but I don't have an extra TV. The PC version of Halo would be cool though.

If not we can always do some BF1942 SW, Unreal or RavenShield when the Counterstrike competition concludes.

Last time I checked, a ton of people were still playing chess - and it's a pretty old game, no?

CS is not even comparable to PONG, so don't go there. It has a ton of life left and for a squad v squad shooter competition it's still a lot of fun. The statistics that you can pull out of it are way cool too.
But sure, I'll other network games... Unreal, Quake 3, Ravenshield, whatever, but keep 'em on the PC platform.

The reason the attendance was bad the last few times was the *time of year*. People are busy during the summer months.

I have to agree with Stitch om the $25 thing, it doesn't cost that much to play at lantastic! That is the reason I have not been to the last few, $25 and no prizes seems a bit pricey IMHO.

I also agree with Squidly that CS is far from being to old to play, usually the guys that say that are the ones on the bottom of the stats board LOL.

$25 bucks is a bit pricey, but I think that's a function of the attendance. I'm assuming they pay rental for the space, and when you only split the thing 6 ways...

I'd like to see a sliding scale, where you pay less if you have 16 than if you have 10...

But anyway bottom line I guess I think that $25 is a small price to pay for a once a month get together with your friends, trade warez, play games, and eat some greasy food. I pay FAR more than that to go to a football or baseball game.

If I had or ever build a LAN PC, I'd attend one of these things some day. I may ask the wife for an X-Box with a Linksys wireless adapter for it for Christmas.

Hylander - I have MANY extra PCs. Say the word and I'll provide one (and a monitor) for your use.
