Hello All. I have a question for you. I am getting ready to upgrade from an AMD Athlon 1 GHz processor to a AMD Athlon 2.0 GHZ processor and wondered about the heat sink. Do I need to purchase a heat sink and the goo seperate to attach this to the processor or will the processor come with this already? I called ahead to the store and they said they had a retail version on hold for me, so I am wondering if the "retail" version includes the heat sink. Any clues?

Also will I be able to use the current CPU fan from the 1.0 or will I need to purchase a new fan for the 2.0?

I suggest getting a really good cooling fan rather than any stock stuff that might come with it. AMD runs pretty hot and likes a good cooling fan/heatsink. If you want a good idea about possible ideas than you can do a search online or i'll post a good link when I get back home. Some of the other guys may have other ideas but those are my suggestions. I am running an AMD 2200+ T-bred @1.87Ghz and even with my 6600rpm fan and nice copper heatsink, I'm running around 52 Celsius. My old AMD T-Bird 700 only ran around 32-35. Heat is our enemy so better cooling is always better.

AMDs are not bad processors - affordable, with competitive speeds, and much cheaper than Intel. And of course, you can also fry eggs on them.

I've never had a problem with my AMD Athlon 2600 installed with the stock fan. I'm not doing any overclocking on it. I run AsusProbe and my temps are always within the acceptable thresholds.
