sound cards

I've been contemplating the benefit of upgrading my sound card. I have been using the onboard soundmax whatever on my asus pc-800 dlux with satisfactory results. Is it worth it to upgrade? I have an older Altec Lansing AC-3 spearks + sub setup which are excellent. I guess is it worth the $100+ for a sound card ? will it make me less likely to tk ? will i hear my team mates better? j/k anyways input appreciated

I have upgraded from my onboard asus digital sound card to the soundblaster Audigy 2 platinum and creative 6100 6.1 digital speakers. I have to admit I do hear sounds that I did not hear before and the sounds I did hear before sound better.
