    KumaWar

    Anyone else been following this?

It's kind of an intriguing concept, releasing map/mission packs based on real-world events. I see the potential for this to become incredibly tacky however. It's one thing to fight WWII and Vietnam battles...it's another to fight a simulation of an event that happened last month.

Yeah ... tacky would be a mild word, I think.

    I don't know. I think it's pretty cool.

Tacky, yes. But what a way to keep up with current events.

I think that it might give some people a better idea of what our troops are going through. I would be interested in trying this out.

So would I.... I'll definitely check it out, probabably even subscribe for awhile. I'm just saying that the potential is there for serious issues of tastefulness.

I see your point. For instance, if you are playing a particular soldier who did not make it out of an encounter alive. That xould be pretty tacky and a bit insensitive to the family.

I agree with Squidly. This is not appropriate for both sides of the fence. Not only for the Americans and their families, but also the Iraqies as well. I am sure there were plenty of Iraqies who fought the war who had little choice and really didn't want to be on the losing side....

I think Vietnam is a little more tasteful since it has been almost 40 years since the beginning of the conflict.

I always take things one step too far... Imagine scanning in the faces of those soldiers and civilians that actually fought and died and putting them into the game. This could get kinda morbid. I can see the developers going through high school year books looking for senior pictures of the grunt just killed. Or screen capping the news to get civilian faces and screams.

I agree the potential is there and if at any point I feel they have crossed the line I simply won't continue to play.

Okay, I downloaded and tried out two of the missions for Kuma/War. It was a change of pace from BF in that you have to take more measured steps; use caution; and conserve ammo. It's single player, squad based meaning that you control 4 characters (ex: infantry, sniper, heavy weapons). You use function keys to switch between each character and a quick keyboard commands to control the other characters in your squad.

The graphics were good but needed a little refinement. Seams were visible in alot of places and slight flickers in lighting between environment types looked like muzzle flash. View distances and lighting were good.

The realism was actually nice. Bad guys were hiding in best areas to jump you and not just standing there. Shooting 1 guy out of a pair didn't get the right response though... a little Metal Gear Solid reaction would have been nice. Instead, the second guy just looks around.

I was too comfortable in finding health from BF experience and had to be more cautious before looking around a corner.

I would purchase this if: It was multiplayer. I like getting up on ventrillo and running through a mission. And if the monthly cost was like $2.50 per map. Otherwise I hate paying to play a game I already own.

I guess the idea is you'll be paying a monthly fee for the ability to download and play with new content every month.

It would be nice to play this thing coop though (like Ravenshield.)

It is multiplayer; I was playing with some guy last night. So far, I'm not too impressed.
