I understand this is a supercharged issue, but I have an important (to me) question on the subject:

With terrorist attacks on virtually every free world power and alliance since September 11, 2001, why have not peaceful Islamic leaders rallied their flock and taken to the streets denouncing the actions of a radical militant few?

Islam is one of the major religions in the world. Whenever Islamic fundamentalist terrorists blow something up, (Spain this weekend, Baghdad today, et. al.) why are there not religious leaders and leaders of entire Islamic nation-states standing up and condemning these atrocities? Why are there not Muslims taking to the streets denouncing these psychopaths and saying in as loud a voice as possible, "This is not Islam and we want to be part of the world community and live peacefully together."

    Where are they?

It seems to me that they are doing a fantastic job of pissing off everybody in the world and, sooner or later, it will become politically advantageous to engage in an unspoken genocide. On the path that they are on, everyone will hate them eventually.

Where are the rational voices of one of the world's great religions?

Their collective silence is deafening to me.

Definetly a tough question. Historically the leaders of religion remain quiet when it comes to speaking out against those that turn religion into hate. For example the Vatican sat back as Hitler rolled around Europe. Hitler clearly identified Jews as a target for his hatred and not once did the Catholic Church tell him he was a naughty boy.

Personally, I have a negative opinion about organized religions in that for the most part they are about making money and controlling people. So perhaps the leaders of Islam don't want to speak out as many of their more powerfull followers may support the terrorist and no one wants to upset the big spenders. Plus if you say that the terrorists are evil you could disenfranchise a large sect of your worshipers... less worshipers equals less money.

Also, it's not really about religion; it's about money, power and land. Just like the Crusades weren't about saving the holy land and christan artifacts... it's always about extending your control and influence over others. Hitler didn't go after the Jews because of their religion, he targetted them because they were land and business owners who were in a small majority and easy to pick on. Religious wars and jihads are not about God, Allah, Creationism, Eden or Moses... It's people being people and using religion to justify their barbarism and hatred.

You bring up a great point Sonic. I wanted to do some research on the subject before answering it, but quite frankly I have a bad feeling about doing a google on Islam now a days and wondering if I would not end up on the wrong website.
People are investigated these days for ending up on the wrong website.
Call me paranoid, but I believe it!

Anyway, I think the peaceful Muslums are afraid of speaking out against their more violent counterparts simply because that would make them sound like they were siding with Christains instead of their own. I have no proof of this, this is only speculation.

Also, deep down I think they also fear bringing retaliation on themselves if they do.

I would like to hear from other people on this subject too, it is quite disturbing how silent everything is out there. Which brings up another point, and no I am not trying to turn this into a dem - repub thing, but Islam is highly agaisnt Homosexuality, why are they not speaking up about that as well?

It is very strange how silent they have been on big issues.....

I think their silence speaks volumes.

Islam sees Islam as the one true religion, and all others as false. They don't pipe up here on any issues because their allegience isn't with the US, it's with Mecca. The disenfranchisement with America, the "Great Satan" as they call us, is so entrenched that being here is a matter of convenience. Not a matter of a better life or the American Dream.

Our failure is in the fact that we believe people are here to better themselves, and in doing so, our nation benefits. Their religion ties them together thicker than any blood could. It's a new world out there, and the majority of America has slipped into the September 10th, 2001 mindset, another failure on our part.

My prediction, another large attack will occur in late October (that's right, just before the election. Spain taught them a lesson.), and will be carried out by different extremists. Converts or caucasian muslims (Serbs, Chechnyans, or radical US converts). Don't be fooled into thinking it's only the people of a certain descent. I think the US converts are just as, if not more dangerous than their Middle Eastern counterparts, and are eager to prove themselves (Jose Padilla).

This is a completely different war than anyone has fought before, and it will turn into the Crusades 21st Century style. Us and Them has never been clearer. Think I'm paranoid? You better believe it, I have the "September 11th, 2001" mentality. I fear for the future my children inherit.

Homeland Security? Where is it? I see security of major companies being handled by people with Work Visas from aforementioned trouble areas, or outsourced to cheap labor countires. We are about to see the amnesty of 3 million illegal aliens to appease big business and their cheap labor pool. I think it's high time we thought for ourselves, I can't associate with either the donkey or the elephant. I'm conservative in nature, but feel that our politicians are out of touch. I'll stay with my own political party, one of free thought, and thought out agendas. It'll answer to no one, except the people.

Sorry for the ramble, but I genuinely feel alone in what I see as a "quiet" transformation of America into a theocratic state of it's own. Open your eyes and look for it. It's right there.

    Upcoming election thought:

Who do our enemies want to win?

Think about that when you go into the voting booth.

You know, Islam is the only religion that we hear commentators repeat over and over again that it's actually a peaceful religion. None of the others seem to require this clarification.

    Good point Clay.

you know, I usually stay away from the political/religious posts here, but this should be a measure of how strongly I feel about the whole situation.

Our enemies want us all to loose. They realy realy do not care about who wins the election here.

Good points, Choozoo. Couldn't agree more.

That's a pretty good website Squidly. I'd heard most of those aurguements B4, but this guy does a nice job articulating it. It does cause an ironic smile when the very penicle of Islamic terrorist success (911) could well be the catalyst that causes the most dreaded result in their region - which is the eventual westernization of the middle east.

I think Bush's plan to westernize the mid-east is brilliant and I urge it Godspeed. You can bet your ass the likes of Kerry won't have the balls to pull it off.
