    Ahh Springtime...

Spring is finally here. The snow is all (mostly) melted. The birds are thinking of returning, the skies are blue. Life is good.

Nice. I'm going shooting this morning. Is that an M-1 Garand on the right?

    Post Pics sonic!

Yes, it's an M1 - purchased direct from the United States Army and delivered to my door by the US postal service through the CMP. Good rifle - still has the original 1945 barrel on it. It's what I use for deer hunting - iron sights and all.

I didn't know they still did the CMP. I'd like to get one!

P.S. We did have a good time shooting...really got our redneck on. Between the two of us, we had two SIG 229's , a .50 cal Desert Eagle, an original Model 29 .44 mag, an Uzi, and an AR-15. The cans of warm root beer at various distances didn't stand a chance...

Didn't get any photos but I'll breing a camera next time.

The government used to have a Civilian Marksmanship Program, where civilians could buy M-1 Garands directly from the government for a bargain price. I was under the impression that ninny anti-gun politicians did away with that program years ago, even though it cost them practically nothing.

After all, it wasn't politically correct to have our government promoting private citizens shooting...even though in the entire history of the program a gun crime had never been comitted by one of its participants.

P.S. I did a quick search and found this link.

I'd like to find a nice gun club up here to get started at. Most that I've seen so far are more "Rod & Gun" type clubs. However, I heard a radio ad the other day about a new Skeet shooting club that is open to the public.

I'd love to join a club that belongs to CMP so I could get a Garand. North End Gun & Rod club of Bethlehem is listed on their website, I'll have to check it out.

What Sonic failed to tell you is that I was out there with the two of them. Now I am not into the gun thing but I sure felt really good after I was done. The only thing is that I am now sick as a dog from beinging out side in the cold. I think the vodka afterwards has a *little* to do with it. I HATE SONICE BOOM, no only that I CURSE HIS EXISTANCE!

The CMP's a good deal. I've bought two guns from them and not a complaint. Here are a couple direct links.

    Eligibility requirements

When I got mine you had a few hoops, but they weren't too bad.
    1) you had to actually shoot in a match - (ie you're not an idiot who doesn't know which end the bullet comes out. At the time it was an official DCM match, but now it looks like they've really loosened the requirements.)
    2) You had to be fingerprinted and notarized (sorry, but that's how it is. They never even see you, so they have to verify you somehow!)
    3) You had to wait about 6 months before you get your rifle (I hear it's much faster now).
    4) You had to be a member of an affiliated rifle club (I joined the state NRA, which usually counts, for $10). Worth doing anyway.

I wholeheartedly encourage anyone to get one of these pieces of history. They don't make 'em like they used to. These are evil semi-auto baby killing bayonet lug containing assault rifles - so get 'em while you can.

Dude! Those are M1's, nice. Cool thing that I learmed yesterday that it is very difficult to shot a Desert Eagle with one hand, let alone shoot one without earplugs.

I may forward that info to my brother or cousin. Then I can use 'em when I go visit.
