Is that a Super Black Eagle or Super 90? I need to send my SBE back for a new stock and was thinking the composite is cooler than walnut.

Either way, your wife got you the finest shotgun money can buy...sweet!

    Sonic, it's an M2,
The M2 is basically an M1 Super 90 with a recoil reducing stock and a cryotreated barrel and chokes. I thought about asking for a Super Black Eagle, but decided against it since the only difference is the SBE is chambered for 3.5" shells, which I'm not interested in.

If I were you, I'd wait just a bit longer, until the new Comfortech rush has stopped, and then order a Comfortech stock for your SBE.

Clay, now you've got me thinking about my shotgun.

You won't believe this but my Dad gave me my SBE about twelve years ago with a crack in the stock and I've never even shot it or cleaned it!

    I feel so sheepish...

Anyway, I figure it's time to get the old SBE up to snuff and go pheasant hunting on my uncle's wheat farm in Eastern Washington this fall. It'll be kinda weird since I haven't been hunting in about fifteen years.

Pretty darn Eastern Washington. The farm's near St. John, about halfway between Colfax and Pullman.

It's a huge wheat farm that's completely posted and no one hunts there except family...which is pretty much nobody since the old timers don't hunt anymore. I talked to my uncle and cousin last weekend and they reaffirmed that I'm always welcome anytime.

It sure would be nice to go back there since I have many great childhood memories like learning to ride horses and hunting pheasant with my Dad and Grandfather.

Anyway, I'm in for this fall's opening day. I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem if you came over. The only thing is that I need to find a good bird dog that obeys by then...

    Clay,

Now you've got me wondering about collector value. I just dug my SBE out of the closet and found that it's actually an old Heckler & Koch SBE, when they were presumably handling the importing for Benelli. It's also a really low serial number, like 0002800.

I'm thinking that I probably shouldn't desecrate it with a refininsh, even though it's got plenty of signs of being a workhorse hunting shotgun. The finish is worn at the edges and the stocks have plenty of scratches. You can see the crack on the left side of the stock.

What do you think? Is this thing worth keeping original or should I just get the new stocks and have it refinished?

If he's got floppy ears and can run fast he can do the job himself.
