    See ya later 20th century!

    I've finally gotten sick of paying $30/month for a land-line that I never use. I just found out that my cell phone company can take over that number and replace my existing cell number with it, all for free.

    Land Line: let's see ...
    -It cost me $30/month at an average of $2/call.
    -No Caller ID
    -No voice mail
    -No call waiting
    -It's been down for the last 7 days and the phone company wants to charge me to come out - depending on where the decide the problem was.

    It's so nice when life presents easy decisions.

    -Clay

    You may not believe this, but I don't know anybody under the age of 40 who has a landline in their home anymore... seriously.

    I was talking about this with Cheese over breakfast the other day and we couldn't think of a single person.

    I have satellite and Tivo, FWIW. You might say I'm doubly blessed by the land-line gods.

    Ditto =)

    DirecTivo plus I have DSL through COVAD. (although having a land line phone service with Verizon for DSL is no longer mandatory). BTW, depending on the TiVO unit, you can do your updates over your broadband connection without a land line now.

    Speaking of cell phones, check this article out.

    Yep, but if you live in Canada where its illegal to subscribe to DTV or Dish you can't watch PPV or event channels that require a call in with your sub. I've got a landline right now, we are moving at the end of the month into an apartment until our new house is built and we are going to go wireless. There's just no point both my wife and I have cels and our landline gets rarely used so it just makes sense, guess i'll be putting the seimans multi handset up on ebay...

    Well, I have my landline through Time Warner cable. I have Road Runner cable with a special modem that plugs into the phone line in my house. Itsa digital phone line and its $40 a month. It uses no special phones and believe it uses "voice over IP" technology. It includes all long distance in the US, caller ID, call waiting, call waiting ID. $5 extra gets voice mail. Taxes and fees are around $6. For the price and as much as I use my long distance, its really nice. Only drawback is if you lose your power, you lose your phone unless you have a UPS which give you a little time...

    At some point I'm going to be very interested in VOIP. Just out of curiosity, do you know how your 911 works? Will it report your physical home address?
