We have a member at the Credit Union who sold his motorcycle on EBAY. He got a "cashiers check" as payment. The "cashiers check" was bogus and bounced.

Moral of the story? NEVER, EVER give up the goods until you can feel the cash in your hands. In this case, for the check to clear. If the other person doesn't like it, tell them you can give them a written receipt until it clears or they can wire the money to you. Receiving Certified / Cashiers checks don't mean anything when they are fraudulent... and with todays imaging and printing technology, it's not all that hard. And unless you are familiar with a particular institution and any logo/seal/hologram mark on the check - that doesn't do much good either.
