Hey Guys,
Last night myself, Stitch, and Cruiser were playing a little D3 online and we started talking about the D3 Dedicated server option and the requirements.
I have a personal "FTP" server I have running here at home on my 1.5/384 DSL connection. Here are the specs for the box:
Windows XP Professional
Epox 8KHA+ motherboard
AMD Athlon XP 2000+
1024mb PC2100 DDR
MSI GeForce4 TI4600 VIVO 128mb
IBM Deskstar 45gig 7200RPM ATA-100 Hard Drive
Maxtor 80gig 7200RPM 8mb cache ATA-100 Hard Drive
Mitsumi CD-Rom (48X) Drive
Plextor PX-W1210A CD-R/RW 12X10X32
SoundBlaster LIVE! Value soundcard
Generic Floppy Drive
LG Electronics Studioworks 995E 19IN .26MM Monitor
Creative I-Trigue 3300 2.1 Speakers
Microsoft Natural Elite Keyboard
Logitech Optical PS/2 Wheel Mouse
Netgear FA310TX 10/100 Fast Ethernet PCI card
Anyways, I loaded D3 on it tonight after we got done playing and fired it up in dedicated server mode. I couldn't find it when I looked under "Internet" servers, but I could under "LAN" and connected by myself under the LAN server at everything seemed extremely solid. If any of you guys are available tomorrow night (Monday).. let me know so I can fire it up and see if I can iron out all the configurations, tune it, etc and see if my box and DSL connection has enough "oomph" to host 4 players. I was able to connect with no problem under the LAN, pw worked, all the game settings were correct, etc.. but I won't really know anything until we try a "live" test with a full 4 players and see how it holds up.
I'm reading some of the config setting suggestions given over at Planet Doom right now and I'll see how it goes.
Seems I have to start the server with the CD in the drive, then I can remove it so I can use it on my PC. Guess a need to create a copy with Alcohol 120% might be in order.
UPDATE:
LOL! OK.. I know it's working! I was justing watching the console and 3 people were kicked off for incorrect password!! So it must be visible to others. I've had this problem before.. where I can't see hosted games on my own IP from behind my router, etc. even though they are there.
