Arrow What I picked up from our scrim yesterday

Okay, first off I for one had a blast yesterday, and I think I learned a ton in that short time. As many of you know I am new to Tribes, and last night was my first ever experience playing in a match. I think I can finally understand where the appeal for this game truely comes from. I even had butterflies last night before we started. Anyway like the topic says, I would like to go over a few things I saw, and a few things I was doing that wasn't working at all.

    Damnation:

I was playing light D and sniper, and the first thing I found is you play either one or the other. You should either be just a sniper moving around doing your thing away from the flag, or just a flag guard and you stick to the hills right around the flag. Also, when we get more guys, I think the sniper role would work best in a team of two, easier to take out the bigger guys and that way you have someone to watch your back. Maybe when I get more experienced I can combine them more, but last night I was totally surrounded by their guys.

On a side note, I got a good idea of how they worked their offence on this map from my side, so if anyone is interested let me know and I can post about that also. Being on defence I didn't get a chance to see how they defended their flag, but their offence always came in groups, always. I wonder how a buddy system would work on defence? You always have one guy with you, working together, practiceing together, and pubbing together. That might be asking for a lot, but you would sure develope strong two man teams that way. I say this because in both matches yesterday, I felt very alone on defence. Okay I have kind of gotten away from just the Damnation match, so let me move onto Sanctuary.

Sanctuary: (don't you just love these little headers?)

The major thing I noticed on this one was my lack of defensive routs. Our flag would get taken, I would start the chase, and I would getting ditched in a most embarrassing way. Like Damnation I think the sniper should be more of an after thought, unless you have a team of them and that is all they do. Their guys were in and out of the base very fast and with very little warning. I could hardly get a bead on them, let alone get a shot off. I am curious if their team utalized the sniper position on either of the maps? I got a few decent views of their attacking routs on this map as well, and would be more then happy to go over them with any of our offensive guys.

To finish this puppy off, I just want to say I really had a lot of fun last night. I think we have our work cut out for us and I can already see we are going to have one hell of a good time playing this game.

p.s. I would like to hear from other people and their view of the matches. Where you think we should work on stuff, and all that.

Game get in your blood and makes you feel all warm and fuzzy. Pixelsponge, excellent observations on both maps. As a you can imagine, the more we play together we understand what we are trying to accomplish and of course you start to understand each others tendecies.

Example...Goob, Slaughter and I have been playing side by side now for two years plus years. Its safe to say I know what they like to do and when and how most times.

Repetition makes habits and habits become natural. So practice, practice, practice. So we should on Damnation let you just smoke their offense with that rifle and apply another to flag chaser...sounds like a plan.

On Sanctury...drop the sniper and make LD period.

Guys, I would suggest using our AK forum in T2 for this kind of infomation in the future. We are the only ones who have access. Take a look at what I've posted so far and add as you see need to.

I don't have access to that part of the board yet, so I'll post my thoughts here.

    Damnation:
As Dr K hinted a day or two before hand, they threw a bunch of stuff at our base early and often. We did a pretty good job of keeping the gens online, but the inv stations by the entrances kept getting hosed.
IMO, we need to either keep 2 people on full time interior duty or implement a plan to intercept the heavies further away from our base. Make sure they never get to the doorway with those mortars.

Sanctuary: I think we held on pretty well there. The gens didn't go down all that often, but when they did, they came back up within 15-20 seconds.

I saw one cloaker and one guy with a satchel charge.. the rest were deposited heavies.

I'm looking forward to hearing some comments from the folks on "O". I was inside the entire time, so I don't know what the battle outside looked like.
