    Web programming langauges

In your own opinions what is the best web programming language to use, and why?

I am curious to know since we are developing our next generation website at work, and you always get varied opinions on what the best language to use is. - Java, PHP....

    It depends.

What do you want to do? What kind of application?

IMO, best business language Java. For personal use, Perl.

It really depends on what you are looking to do, but IMHO on the Apache server / Linux environment that PHP/MySQL is a hard combo to beat. It also seems to be gaining in popularity and use.

However, JAVA can be extremely useful and in fact, can work very well with PHP.

This is a business application. We are looking to add more graphics and a better "feel" to it. Search engine is big on our list as well, as in moving up the ladder. But, we realize that is an art onto itself.

BTW, why would you say Perl for personal use?

Java and J2EE is the most prevelant for business use atm. For personal use I use PHP almost exclusively. It's robust and fast. (And I've learned a lot since I broke Palooka's server) I predict a trend of LAMP reaching into the business community in the future also. Look at sans.org A secuirty organization using PHP on the backend? That should speak volumes.

Just for clarification, I believe Choozoo is referring to LAMP as:

    'Linux - Apache - MySQL - PHP'

Not LAMP as in the 'Linux Animation and Movie Player'.

I thought he meant LAMP (Light Up My Place).

Of course, that would be LUMP.
