    System Resources Decline

I am having a serious issue with my ME Box. The system resources deline on their own without opening up any applications. There isn't any viruses that I can detect with Norton. I am wondering if anyone has come across this before? I am beginning to think there is a problem with my RAM? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    DD

I think I may have spotted your problem.

Seriously, ME is a known flawed OS. 98SE was the best 95 based OS. Win2K runs very well on older machines. I'm running it on my spare box (400 MHZ) with very satisfactory results. XP is OK too. ANYTHING is better than ME. I'd seriously consider switching to linux if finances (and ethics) are a limitation.

    Thanks,

Then you are using a broken version of Norton because it should detect ME as a virus.

As Clay said, ME is the worst OS Microsoft has every produced. It makes Windows 3.1 look easy and stable. It doesn't surprise me that you have a memory leak somewhere. Unfortunately, there is usually little to do other than reinstall Windows - and if you reinstall WinME you deserve any suffering you encounter.

The first thing I did when I had the authority at work was have all PCs with WinME on them whiped clean and install Windows 2000.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the input guys, and yes I do agree with you, it is a pimple on the back side of humanity.
I just need it to go for a little longer until I get my new system up and running, and then I will turn it into a Linux Box!!! wahooooooooo!!!!

I actually had a Microsoft employee apologize to a group of us for WinME at a seminar a few years ago.

Even Win98SE is better than WinME, as Clay pointed out.

Ugh, I remember the week I had ME on my computer, and it was exactly a week before I HAD to format my computer and reinstall 98SE.

If Hale was here, he'd know how to fix this!
