    New handheld

I'm looking at upgrading my Sony Clie (an SJ-22 model) and thinking about getting a PocketPC, rather than a PalmOS 5 device. Anyone have any experience with a recent model PalmOS or PocketPC device they'd like to share? Right now I'm looking at Dell Axims.

I've had my Sony Clie' PEG-N760C for a couple years now and I still use it daily. I use Palm Desktop for my synching, etc since I don't use Outlook. I really wanted a Treo 650 to combine my phone/PDA - but I put a hold on that since I got the Motorola V710 phone for free from Verizon. However, If I were to buy a handheld today, I would find it hard to pass on the Dell Axim's. There is a ton of stuff out there for Palms, however the PocketPC does offer a more 'seamless' integration if you use MS Office alot. The Tungsten T5 is very nice however and it can be used in landscape or portraid viewing - which is nice for graphs, browsing, etc. It can also be used as a portable USB storage device.

It really comes down to: How much you want to spend? What you are planning to use it for? Do you plan to do 'multimedia' and alot of synching with your Windows Desktop? Do you plan to do wireless wi-fi access on your handheld and browse the internet? Email? Or do you really just need a very good 'organizer' that synchs with Outlook, Thunderbird, Eudora, etc? Do you need BlueTooth?

We use Outlook to hook up to an Exchange server. This PDA is in lieu of a PC upgrade this year, so money really isn't much of an object. Ideally, I want to get one of the ones with a Media Player--watching a movie on a handheld while I travel would be cool, as would 802.11b--the ability to get on the web wirelessly will be very helpful for me when I visit various buildings around campus. I'd have to pay for it myself, but the ability to add a GPS function later would be neat--I'd love to try some geocaching.

I think for your purposes, the Axim X50v is perfect.

480X640 screen - GREAT for video watching.
Has Blue Tooth & 802.11 access.
It has a multimedia accelerator built in.

For $399, its a great deal IMHO.

Aye, I picked up an Axim after doing a bit of research on which would best fit my needs.. I love the little thing and how I can take it to work and school then snyc up the info with MS office at home. You'll probably want to use a conversion progie for the movies, convert it into a format sized for the resolution - makes a 700mb divx file into about 190mb.
