    Not-So Fantastic Four

Pass on this one boys and girls. I think we are starting to see the downhill slide of the comic-book movie attraction. The movie industry has seen the commercial draw of superhero movies and now all they want to do is cash in and cash out. After wasting $7.00 on a matinee at 10:30 this morning to see F4 I can only dread to see what else Hollywood could possibly due to ruin the future of 'good' Marvel or DC titles. Sure, the genre will rebound (who remembers Captain America or S.H.I.E.L.D. (staring David Hasselhoff)) but the damage is done and once again I'm dissapointed. F4 was never strong enough for a movie in my opinion anyway but when this bombs what then of the good stories? What will happen to the film adapatation of Alan Moore's groundbreaking and dramatic 'The Watchmen'? Will Nick Cage ever appear as 'The Ghostrider'. And what of the current production of Superman... is it too doomed to fail? I worry that a single flop like F4 will ripple through Hollywood. Budgets will be cut. Scripts thrown out. And once again our childhood comic book heroe's will be thrown back to the direct-to-video shelf at Blockbuster. Bah!

F4 had your standard slew of bad acting, bad script, and plot holes gallore supported on the stage of special effects and fond childhood memories that have collectively been dashed upon the rocks like Batman 3 & 4. What a waste.

Batman Begins was fantastic IMHO. The Spiderman movies were very well done. I also happen to enjoy the X-Men movies and think they are done pretty darn well.

So I don't think one bad movie like F4 (I obviously haven't seen it yet but don't forget there was another F4 movie made) will have any kind of ripple effect any more so than any of the other horrendous comic book adaptations (Other later batman movies (B&R), Judge Dredd, Punisher, Superman IV, Captain America, Spawn was pretty bad, etc.

    *sigh*

I had high hopes for this one. As a kid, the FF were among one of my monthly comic book staples (along with Spiderman and the Avengers). It's too bad too. Such potential for a great story and a great series of movies.

However, I don't think it will have much of an impact on the comic book movie genre. Batman Begins was excellent and has give rebirth to that franchise. X3, Spiderman 3 and Superman are just around the corner and as long as they make sufficent $$$ at the box office will continue the trend.

Just a warning, there is a possiblity that X-men 3 will be a steaming, smelly, penut filled turd. The new director is gutting it from what I have read. Caving in to Halley Barry by killing Cyclops off early in the movie so she will be the leader and start a torrid affair with Wolverine (for no good reason other than to have more screen time). Jean Grey will be back but won't hook up with Wolvie cause he will be hitting the Storm.

Nightcrawler is rumored not to be in it at all which is disapointing since I thought they did a pretty good job of him in X2 even if it wasn't exactly like the comics.

Professor X may also be killed off.

Juggernaut will be a second rate flunky of Warren Worthington the second (Angel's father) and the plot will revolve around a serum that Angels father creates that "cures" mutant abilities and his intention of eradicating mutants by making them human.

We shall see what, if anything, is done with Angel and Beast.

The director, whose name escapes me, is also adding in a "sex mutant" to up sales. The rumor is she will be Stacy X who in the comics was, apparently, a very very minor character who had the ability to seduce any man. She will be a hooker and dressed very scantily. I have no problem with sexy women in wearing near nothing, in fact I highly support them and wish to see more such women everywhere as it happens in my dreams... but to add her in just to try to up box office sales? Lame... unless she is realy hot... and naked... and in my appartment.

I have no faith in the next X-men movie.

Superman may be good since Bryan Singer who directed the first two X-men movies hooked up with WB to make Superman. Fox studios was taking too much control of X-men away from him (it was probably their idea to add the sex mutant in) to increase sales. So Fox got the guy who was going to direct Superman... and was fired from the project because he sucked so bad. And WB got Singer who was pissed about loosing control of X-men and pitched his idea to WB of what Superman should be like. So, since Singer is a comic book fan, if he gets his way he should make a pretty good Superman movie.

X3 will likely be something you would rather forget.

And there has been no mention of the Pheonix saga at all which is where X2 was leading right into! Too bad, I would rather see that story line instead of the one they are rumored to be using.

    Back to work for me!

Edit: Oh, and the only reason I want to see FF is to see Jessica Alba in tight clothes. I expect the movie to suck, when I see it on a DvD rental that is.

    4F breaks Hollywood slump

The comic-book adaptation "Fantastic Four" raked in $56 million during its first three days, apparently helping to end a swoon in which domestic movie revenues had been down 19 weekends in a row compared with last year's.

"It took four superheroes to end this slump, and Hollywood is grateful," Dergarabedian said. "Comic-book movies, if properly marketed, are exactly what mainstream audiences want to see in their summer movies."

Which Cpt. America are you talking about? The 1979 made for tv one (which I loved as a kid) or the 1991 one?

And yes, Spawn did suck the worst out of all the comic book/movie ones.

You obviously didn't see last year's adaptation of The Punisher, Stitch. That was so atrocious that I couldn't even finish watching it. A building full of zany neighbors? WTF?

I was going to add a poll to this one now (I'm on a poll binge). But I can't add a poll to this thread. arg

In your opinion what's the best movie adaptation from comic book or best super-hero movie:

    Superman (any of them)
(the first one was okay, but not great)
    Spiderman (either of them)
    (both were good for me)
    Batman (any of them)
    (1 and begins are good)
    X-Men (either of them)
(okay, but didn't like the choice of characters... I wanted beast and iceman)
    Fantastic Four
(only one has been released) (yuck)
    S.H.I.E.L.D (Nick Fury)
    (arg)
    Captain America
    (ouch)
    Spawn
    (eek)
    Unbreakable
    (my favorite... I enjoy M.Night Shamalamadingdong's movies)
    Hulk
    (good enough)
    Daredevil
    (week)
    Elektra
    (vomitous)
    Hellboy
    (okay)
    Catwoman
    (waste)
    Judge Dredd
    (so-so)
    Swamp Thing
    (hahahaha)
    Punisher (either of them)
(though Dolph's painted on 5 o'clock shadow was a hoot)
    Teen-age Mutant Ninja Turtles
(kiddie movie) (soon to be remade by Ang Lee)

You'll get at least half of your wish in X-Men 3...Beast will be played by Kelsey Grammar.

Seriously.. I like that casting. I think he could do a good job in that role.

I agree. I think Kelsey Grammar is a good choice. Remember Beast is a genius (albeit a blue furry one).

Yeah, I think so too, especially since Grammar will most likely be doing very little beyond providing the voice and serving as the "face model" for the CGI animation that they'll most likely use.

The question I have about Beast is are they going to do the old X-men version of Beast where he looked human, but big and monkey like?

Or are they going to do the Avengers version of Beast where he became blue and hairy after some kind of accident with his mutant serum?

Or are they going to do the current version of Beast where he looks like a blue cat? -This one is my least favorite because he looks like a blue version of Ron Perlman in that old TV series Beauty and the Beast.

Personaly I liked him better in the real old days when he just looked like a big dude with prehensile feet.

I would rather see Colossus actualy do something more than herd the kids out the hole in the wall like in the last movie. In fact I would much rather see Colossus than Beast (I never cared much for Beast, never dis-liked him just never realy cared for him).

The original plans for Beast involved Ron Jeremy with Jenna Jameson taking on the role of Stacy X... but the script never got past the theme music stage...
