Getting our own, ranked AK BF2 Server

How much does it cost for our own, ranked AK Server? Is Beast's server still available. Playing with asshats on Pub servers is making me wish we had our own with admin rights.

I'd be willing to contribute to have our own ranked server if it as a reasonable price. Does anyone know what it costs?

I remember it costing an arm and a leg, due to the fact that there was a very limited number of places that EA authorized to lease out ranked servers. Haven't looked into it lately, though. My unranked server is currently up and running a mod called "USI". I haven't tried it out myself; Nuts knows more about the mod than I do. I have no objection to switching it out for vanilla BF2 or Special Forces, though (although I currently don't have SF.)

There's one clan whose server I play on that has a monthly clan bill of $600!

Most providers offer AF/EF/SF on the servers plus BF2CC (kinda like the old Black Bag Ops) for remote control for no extra $$$. You just have to restart if you want to play SF on the server.

This is just ridiculous. I guess gone are the days when you could simply fire up your own server. Now with all this "ranked server" bullshit if you want people to play on your server you have to pay through the nose. If it were $100 a year I'd say go for it, but $600 a month. For chrisakes that should be a crime!

Question.. is the # of slots "total", or each side?

IE, does 16 slots mean 8 vs 8 or is it 16 vs 16?

Personally, from a performance standpoint, I like either 24 vs 24 or 32 vs 32 max. So that is either $88 a month or $200 a month?

Slots are available spots on the server... not per team. In other words a 24 man slot is 12 v 12 (a very common build for regular clans). Only the largest (100+ members) clans have 64 (and most dumb that down to 56 for performance). When the mods start coming out (something that Dice has vowed to better support), ranked servers will start to lose popularity. Plus, with 1.4, the broken unlocks will be fixed and unranked servers will have both locked and unlocked weapons. Add to that alternative ranking systems (kinda like what we used to have on our DC maps... when Kidd and I beat all your punk asses), unranked servers will begin to dominate.
