As far as flat screens, I've been extremely happy with my Dell 20in Widescreen LCD. I also have a 19in Sony Trinitron CRT. When I used a Spyder 2 Pro Monitor Color Calibrator / Profile creator.... The difference in color tone, etc is not all that far off with the Dell from the Sony. There is some more back light bleed through, but nothing I ever notice much unless I'm really looking for it. You will find that will alot of LCDs though.

I was actually looking for that thread earlier, but got distracted....

    Thanks!

are the 7900 nVidia the newest generation? I was thinking of those two I listed, as they only cost $280 for the pair, and totaled 1GB of Video RAM

The 7900 is a newer generation. There are some more powerful versions of the ones I listed out there, but I think for the price:performance, the 7900GT is a good bargain. The 7600 series is a bit limited due to it's 128-bit memory interface, but two of them will just about equal one of the 7900GTs. So you could get about the same performance for a little less by going that route. However, the downside is if you want to upgrade later, you'll have to buy two new cards higher up, or one bigger monster later. If you buy the 7900GT for around $350.00 or so, and need to upgrade, you can buy just another 7900GT which would rock. So basically, a 7600 series is about 50% of the 7900GT in performance. It's a tough choice to make. I think for me personally, I'd go with the newer generation performance for slightly more money and go the single route with the possibility of upgrading to SLI later if the funds permit.

The "cream of the crop" for NVIDIA right now is really the 7900GTX, but it's about $500.00. (At least until the 7950 GX2 is readily available). For ATI, it's the 1900 XTX at about the same price point.

The motherboard and processor I chose are the AMD form factor, AM2. It's a dual core processor running at 2.2mhz.

It's not the fastest processor available, but it's the best in that particular price range ($350 or so). The next fastest processor is the 4600 at around $575 running at 2.4mhz and then the FX62 running at 2.8mhz with 2x1mb of L2 cache (the others have 2x512kb of L2 cache), but the FX62 costs over $1,000.00.

With the AM2 form factor just now coming out in the last month or so, the motherboard should easily allow for upgrades down the line if so needed.
