    Changing your BF2 account name

    Just found this:

If you want to change your online account name, email, or both, the correct way to do so is by going directly to the GameSpyID site, and first login using your current details. Then change the relevant information, enter the correct password and submit it to save the changes. Then when you return to BF2, enter your new details and retrieve your new account details then login to your multiplayer account.

    GameSpyId site

So for all you guys whose name is mangled and need to change it give it a try.

UPDATE: seems like this is not an entirely easy thing to do. I have been unsuccessful so far in getting my name to change. Thanks EA for making this such a PITA!

If you were a zombie and I had to kill you, I'd feel sad.

I tried updating my details...we'll see if they work.

BTW, you don't have to put your clan tags into your user name anymore. At the login screen, there's a box labelled "prefix"--whatever you put there will show up ahead of your user name in the game.

That's why I am trying to change my login name. I'd like to take the [AK] out of my user name. Right now my in-game name is [AK] [AK]Bribo which is just a tad redundant.

Found this on the EA customer support site:

Question: Why does creating a new nickname reset your Rank?

    Answer:

Your rank is linked to your nickname. If you create a new nickname, that nickname will earn rank separately from your original nickname. There is no way to change your nickname or merge accounts. Be sure to create a nickname that you want to use permanently to avoid starting over at the lowest rank by making a new one. Be aware that creating a new nickname to reflect a clan you join will mean that nickname starts from lowest rank.

    Meh!

    Bribo,
I only saw (1) [AK] in your name last night playing...
Had a great time playing last night by the way!

That's because I didn't have my clan prefix set. If I set it now I'll see two.

Can't believe they don't let you update your account name.

Yeah, I've never used the clan prefix for that particular reason. They should have thought of that to begin with, not afterwards without a method to change your name.

I'll just have to live with the [AK]Hylander name without the prefix.

I was able to go in and change my GameSpy nickname and remove the [AK] tag but upon getting into the game i still see my in game name as [AK]Bribo. Hrm.

No big deal. Just wish EA had not made things so complicated. You have your BF2 account name/password, gameSpy account/password and EA downloader account name/password. All these accounts and passwords to keep track of and not too much flexibility to make any changes.

I just bought, installed, and signed up yesterday. During the install it said that you not be able to change the name, email, or PW after creation. I was a bit shocked about the email and PW part.
