Damn, I fairly seriously jealous. Even if I were accepted, I have no idea where I'd find the time.

I am looking forward to 2142, though.

OK, I guess an update is due. First the beta only has one map, but I like it alot. The graphic are well done and its huge with close combat areas (building and broken walls) and open area for sniping and area in hide in.

The objective of the game is somewhat the same(CTF). With the except as you cap the flag(missile silo) it launch a rocket destined for your Base air ship to dismantle its shields. Once the shields are down, you must enter the ship via cargo ship and destroy stations on the it to win. So it forces close combat and some strategy.

Other things ,, its still very laggy and graphic glicthes abound. Most servers have ping rates that remind you of the early day of BF1942. So far I will buy this game, but then again I buy everything.

    I'm looking forward to it.

    Speaking of 1942...

As summer here in Seattle winds down (the the Seahawks start to wind up) I'm going to try to get my machine back up to snuff by this weekend and try some old-school 1942.

At least I'll know what the hell I'm doing.

Another short preview here with some pics: http://pc.gamezone.com/gzreviews/p29127_2.htm

This one looks good. Kind of a combination of old school Tribes and BF1942. Sign me up.

It's crap. It's all crap. It's a frickin mod. All the problems with BF2 will carry right over. All the tards that focus on ranks. All the hacks. All the glitching. Booooooooo to EA for making us pay for a mod!

Is it really a mod? Do you need BF2 installed to play this? That's not the impression I got.

Yep just a mod... repackaged as a new game. Same frickin' engine and all. So while you won't need BF2 to play it, you're basically spending $50 bucks on something that should have been free.

As long as POE continues to rock and the dev community produce similar titles, I find no reason to go to 2142.

But then again, I'm bitter that I spend less than 1 hour a week playing anymore. I should have just gotten a dog... but no. I decided to have two kids and go to school full-time. What was I thinking!

I'll wait for reviews and some early impressions, but I plan to get this.

I'm not into many mods for 'games'... as DUD, I mean Day of Defeat, still leaves a bad taste in my mouth to this day and of all the mods I tried, only Desert Combat really stands out as something I enjoyed.

Ironic, considering in the sim racing community the mod scene is where it is at.

Mods have made some games SORE!! Counterstrike for instance.. I beta tested and was hugely involved with cs for over 4 years. When Beta 1 to cs was launched it went through the roof.
Desert Combat, again was what made battlefield, and sold due to its success.

Cant count a game out till its out...

I'm not dissing mods... DC saved BF2 and extended it for an additional year. POE for BF:V was a great mod as well. But when EA/DICE announces that they will release a mod under the guise of a new game ($$$) months before fixing the original game (BF2) it's quite upsetting. It would have been better (from the consumer's point of view) if EA fixed the problems in the existing game first. Instead and in the midst of the 1.3 patch fiasco which crippled the community with crashing servers, they announce BF:2142. Players were given the impression that EA/DICE was more concerned with rolling out a new product ($$$) rather than fix the one that was already on the market. Add to it the entire 'booster' concept which many felt was a means of releasing basically 'free' maps and weapons upgrades but charging players, EA lost a lot of face. Sure, it's a great business model.... hell, you can't fault EA for making decisions based on money. But with so many other companies offering free upgrades to their existing products in order to attract and retain players, EA just came across as uncaring and evil.

I don't doubt that there will be some great features in BF:2142 and heck, I may end up buying it. But EA has lost a lot of respect in the gaming community for the entire BF:2 screwup. One just has to look at the forums that are out there... or even at the entire patch process (patches that require patching within hours due to crappy coding, patches that don't fix what it was intended to fix, and patches that broke the game) and see that the die-hard BF fans are just tired of EA.
