    Digital Cell phone signal boost

My PC station is in the basement of my house. We don't have a land-line anymore, so I rely on my cell-phone for communications. The problem is my cell phone usually won't get signal in the basement, so when I'm at my PC, I'm basically out of contact telephone-wise. Is there any kind of rig out there than I can plug in upstairs that will boost and retransmit the signal down into my basement?

You can try a high gain antenna plugged into the side of your phone.. Truck stops are best for grabbing one of these.
Here is an example off ebay!

I use one on the trains when I am high up in the sierras. Just throw the antenna out the window and attach to side (magnet) and I get great reception.
There usually pretty cheap. Worth a try.

    Bluetooth?

You purchased a BT capable phone, correct? If so you could leave your phone upstairs and use a BT headset to recieve your calls.

I had no idea BT had the range and power to punch through a couple of floors. That's pretty impressive!

33ish feet - so long as they are "pointed" at each other they should have no problem going through floors.

But your best bet if it's too far to use BT is to use some type of signal booster that FC mentioned.

My experience with Bluetooth has been less than stellar. Mice and Keyboards often struggle to connect to devices within 5 feet of each other.

Guess I'm just unlucky that way.

Gah, I went to my folks house the other day and my dad comes walking up yapping away. Then I saw it. Some wireless sissy looking thingamabob in his ear. He starts to show it off, I cut him off tell him he looks like a girl with that thing in his ear and now its sits in the box it came in as it should have always been.
