So, PC gaming is still living!

So , WOW is great game (2 years later), but its been awhile since I seen a string of PC games that are good or great even. I have to say I lovin the latest string of PC games.

    Bioshock - love it
World in Conflict - love it
Quake wars demo, seems to point to a winner
I enjoy Command and Conquer 3 and will proably finish the HL2 ep 2 series next month. With all these games, I dont have time for the xbox 360 (expect maybe Halo 3)

    Your thoughts?

I just hope we as a gaming group [AK] can find one decent PC game that we can all play together. Last Thursday's Quake Wars FPS night was fantastic and made me remember when AK used kick ass and take names on the TWL ladders.

Indeed, only thing is that QW runs like rubbish on my fairly decent rig, even after doing some settings tweaking. Bioshock was an excellent way to re-experience SS2 in a new setting; C&C3 was great after the prior rubbish that EA turned out after acquiring the CnC series.

But WiC, wow, I played a few hours of it online this AM, and it would be fantastic to get an AK n friends crew going on that. Getting in on these 8v8 matches where actual team-work happens is quite rewarding to see... especially when that means quintuple tactical nukes going off at once

It has built in VoIP support so vent's not required along with leaderboards showing rankings, medals, stats. Similar to what was implimented for BF2.

I still prefer PC gaming, but Microsoft - who gives lip service to PC gaming - seems to do a great job at creating obstacles to the advancement of gaming on the PC. Whether it's DX10, VISTA, etc. They talk about "Windows Gaming" and how PC users will be able to compete against console players, etc.. yet it's very slow in developing.

In this month's Maximum PC, I forget the title, but it's a console title and it allows for 3rd party mods to be played online. If consoles continue to evolve in that way and Microsoft doesn't do more to support PC Gaming... I think developers are going to find it harder in the future to make progressive games that can continue to evolve technically while still making a profit. The PC as a gaming device will die all together if they keep porting over console games that perform like crap (Think Rainbow Six: Vegas)

I'm contemplating upgrading my AT 1900XT video card for a DX10 compatible and adding a removable hard drive tray to install VISTA on another drive. But that $500 or so could get me setup with an XBOX 360 (Shut up Stitch!). I've always been a PC advocate, but just as an example - I'm a huge Half-Life fan. I love HL2, and still love playing it. I purchased HL2: Episode 1, and cannot run it on my PC. I've tried 4 different drivers and the only way I can get it to run "OK" is if I drop down to DX7 or DX8, it will not run in DX9 without crashing. HL2 runs flawlessly on my PC at 1680X1050. Every once in awhile I check the forums and see there are a ton of people still having the same error I get when the game crashes. The only "fix" offered is run at DX8 or below. That's BS.

All that being said... I'm having alot of fun playing Quake Wars and I may pick up the World in Conflict as well. And since real "sim racing" can only be done on the PC......

Just my $.02 which is worth almost nothing in Euros.

I had an X1950 XT Card briefly and sent it back ... ATI is back to flubbing the drivers again. I wound up just building a new system and running with an 8800 GTS 640 MB. The new Nvidia cards are flawless. :-) I was really disappointed in the ATI, because I really liked my old 9700 Pro.
