My raptor 10,000 rpm hard drive took a dump last weekend and lookin to get a new one. it was a loud drive and want to go back to a 7200 rpm HD with a 200g cap. Im going wed to get one and picking up Quake Wars because my break is over and rdy to game again. Any suggestions on quiet reliable and fast ones out there?

From my anecdotal experience, you can't beat a Seagate. (Disclaimer: I do own Seagate stock, but I put them in my portfolio because they make a product I'm comfortable recommending, not vice versa.) They do tend to be a tad more expensive than their competitors, so depending on how much of an issue price is for you, Western Digital hasn't been too bad for us either. Maxtor is my least favorite brand.

I just bought a 500-gig Western Digital a few weeks ago for $135. It's amazing how prices have dropped.

I've purchased many brands of hard drives from Maxtor, Western Digital, Seagate, and IBM. The only drive I ever had die on me was the old IBM.

In my primary rig now I have a Western Digital Caviar SE16 (320GB, 7200RPM) that I paid $99 for at newegg.com last year and it's been flawless and quiet. It's now only $75.

    Newegg.com

That being said, in my 2nd PC which also serves as my personal file server and FTP server, I have 2 - 250GB 7200RPM Seagate Barracuda Hard Drives with 8mb Cache setup in raid for the last couple years and they are very quiet and work flawlessly as well.

Oh yeah--forgot about the old IBM (rebranded Toshiba) DeathStar--I mean DeskStar--hard drives. So bad that Toshiba was hit with a class-action suit over them.
