    Pagefiles, Source games, etc.

I'm having a problem with HL2 Episode 2 on my PC - surprise, surprise. I love Half-Life 2, but I'm getting sick and tired of these issues.

Ep2 actually runs flawlessly at 1680x1050 on my PC. However, I have to start the game from a fresh reboot every single time or else I get a error with internal driver error which supposedly is a pagefile size error. I've already increased my pagefile to 3070 minimum and the 4000 maximum size. If I play the game, quit it, and then try to restart it... I always get the error. Once I reboot, I can start it up no problem. I 'think' it happened when I tried to start portal as well if I recall correctly. Steam says some programs use alot of pagefile and list AVG anti-virus as a culprit - which I use. But I am not going to uninstall my AVG for a source game when I have this problem with no other games at all.

    Any suggestions?

Start the game from a fresh reboot every single time.

If I didn't have to wait 90 minutes every time XP loaded It wouldn't be such a problem. It's not like OSX you know... it takes alot of time to pre-load those vulnerabilities and blue screens.

Don't need one... My PC is fairly up to date. Intel dual core E6600, 2 gigs of RAM, and an ATI X1900XT with 512mb. The "oldest" thing on it is the video card.

It just annoys me that I only have these problems with source based games, and reading the Steam forums and doing searches on Google, I'm not alone. Once the game starts after a reboot, it runs flawlessly. Looks great at full graphics at 1680x1050.

I'll have to do some research. Is 4gb a Windows limitation for pagefiles? Because it won't let me set it any higher, and I have plenty of hard drive space. Maybe I'll set the minimum and maximum both to 4gb to see if that helps.

(Note - is there a difference between paged pool memory and pagefiles ?)
