First day buy for me, for the nostalgia factor alone.
I might have to recreate a windows partition for this.

Cool it's finally going gold lame that US gets it 4 days after the rest of the world.

If you find yourself in a losing battle....your tactics suck!
Gunny you should play Uberstrike while you wait. Lots of noob sniping to be had. And it's free.

After your post I played it a few times, pretty cool, fast paced game. I prefer the run and gun in a game like that. I am surprisingly enough Gunnyhighway in game I'll try to hop on more often. You mentioned a client version I only found the browser based but would like to see the difference if you happen to have a link handy.

I'll be pretty surprised if the game isn't a colossal letdown. Not a day one purchase for me.
I'm in there as Datasquid.
The client version is for Mac only currently. They are working on the windows client.
In the meantime the game is also available via web-browser at uberstrike.com or through a typical game plugin at Facebook (search for Uberstrike.)
I like it because it's as easy to hop in for a quick game before work, as it is to spend several hours with at night. The thing they're doing with the bluebox maps is pretty cool too. The map selection is about to explode.

Ars Technica review of Duke Nukem Forever:

Barely playable, not funny and rampantly offensive. I don't care how nostalgic it is - it sounds like this one is a turd.

If you were a zombie and I had to kill you, I'd feel sad.
Worst reviewer, ever.
Does he not understand that Europeans call cigarettes "Fags" (as did many Americans at one point in time)?

If the mindless killing doesn't bother you then the rest shouldn't be "offensive" either I agree Squid an additional feature to me too.
BTW anyone pick this up? If so post your thoughts plz.

I've got it--controls are a little "sluggish" and load times a little long on my 3-4 year old midrange machine, but nothing unplayable (at least in single player; I suspect it'd make me dead meat in a multiplayer match). The ArsTech review makes a good point about "zoom/aim" view not going down the gun sights, and the dated feel of taking cover, but the graphics are really nice (again, even on my aging midrange system) and the world has an unprecedented level of interactivity--finding things to do for fun and increased max health is half the fun of the game.
As for the offensiveness--if you can make it through South Park, you can probably make it through this. They have a point about the references being a bit dated, and there's none of South Park's socio-political commentary, but there really isn't anything here I haven't seen before, at least through the parts I've played.
I'm currently without a windows partition, and I don't want to clutter up my SSD with one at the moment. Sometime when I have a few hours I'll figure out how to do it on a secondary drive and then I'll pick this up and give it a go.
Hopefully by then there will be a patch which will help the load times.
