Why we hate the media.
I stumbled across this link a few days ago, but forgot to read it until today. Just another facet of our wonderful media-monster. (I'm talking primarily about Jennings' and Wallace's performance.)

One of the most interesting things is that this is on the PBS site.
Was this a "Frontline" TV show? How did I miss this one?

If you were a zombie and I had to kill you, I'd feel sad.
I vaguely remember this "panel"...I think I caught a partial rebroadcast years later. This reminds me of a Mike Wallace interview I heard recently on the radio (770 WABC). It was after the Nick Berg beheading and one of the hosts (Curtis Sliwa of Guardian Angels fame) asked Wallace why we weren't seeing the beheading looped on tv like we were the prison photos. Wallace spoke quickly before catching himself. What he said was telling.
I don't have the quote, but from memory, this was the gist:
We could do that...we could show that tape over and over again...but it would inflame emotions across the country and you'd have people rushing out to enlist and support would grow for this war.
The hosts were incredulous and he stopped that train of thought. He worked hard to turn it into a matter of decency towards the family. I'm still shocked that this hasn't turned up somewhere in a sound loop (I've looked hard for it.)
