"10/11/02

Well, it's been another week and the online community just keeps growing. We promised to keep you updated... and as Churchill said, "bloody right!" Okay, maybe Churchill didn't say that but he must have thought it occasionally.

Here's a quick update:

Linux server
Still being debugged. This is taking longer than we expected. You can imagine the process...run server, crash, fix, run server, crash, fix... etc.

1.2 Patch:
We're balancing what needs to be fixed versus what we can fix promptly. So, some of the things we're looking at fixing:
General Stability
Remote Console
Sound bugs
Map load times
Grenade effectiveness versus tanks
Map editor
... plus a whole lot more on the way.

Refresh Rate on Win98 and ME systems
We can't support different refresh rates like we can with Win2k and XP. Unfortunately there's no support for that kind of control in DirectX under 98 or ME.

Cheating
We're committed to making BF1942 as cheat-free as possible. Because most of the game calculations are handled on the server, people using cheats are finding it very difficult to profit from them. In fact, watching someone try the Speed Hack is just plain comedic. "C'mon soldier! Fire that gun! FIRE!!! Now...RELOAD!" LOL. In any event... we at EA and DICE will make you this pledge: If you find a cheat, send it to us and we'll do everything in our power to negate its effect in the game. Everyone deserves a fair game, right?

That's about it for this week. See you all on the battlefield...

PS
Wow, Fireal…you're on the ball with those new map suggestions. Have you been reading the design docs for the Expansion Pack?"
