This would be way cool if it ever becomes a reality. I'd love to build my own Mac OS X machine.

Why wait? OSX rules...

And the flags are all dead at the top of their poles.

The biggest hurdle to OSX on x86 that no one seems to be mentioning is hardware integration. Jobs has complete control over every piece of hardware that OSX talks to and ample time to QA the interaction between every facet of OSX and said hardware. If OSX were ever released to the masses, I predict that a zillion hardware integration bugs would pop up due to poorly designed hardware offered by hundreds of iffy OEMs. Say what you will about Microsoft (believe me, I've said them too), but if M$ or some single company was responsible for the manufacture and distribution of every piece of PC hardware out there, Windows95/98/ME/2K/XP would have all be rock-solid operating systems with very few bugs to speak of; and probably twice as fast.

then why are they made out of meat?

I'll have to agree with Zorro on that... I mean there are so many problems that can arise from hardware issues alone... and if there was one central company making drivers and hardware for the OS it would be better (ex: Apple).. Think of the possibilities.

Just run Linux and get the "Liquid" desktop for KDE. Voila.. OS X
