I was just wondering if anyone has played the retail version of Star Wars Galaxies. Is it really as disastrous as I'm hearing?

There is a lot of bitching about it in Sony's Planetside forums.
Beyond the fact that no one could even register their game and sign in for a few days when they went live I'm sure it's great. :P

If you were a zombie and I had to kill you, I'd feel sad.
I hate to admit it but I am realy currious about this game. Not enough to buy it since I am not gaming anything realy at the moment but I still kind of want to see it.
The one person I know that plays it said that after friday there were very few if any problems. He lost connection to the server once on Saturday and that was it, ran fine the rest of the time.
But he is more into the trade skills (which sound to me about as much fun as open heart surgery with a brick). Everything is player made, apparently, no NPC vendors but some automated bazaar terminal or something.
I'd be interested in hearing how the game is. At least how good the combat portion is, I do not like the idea of being a "crafter" or "dancer" at all.

I'm so morbidly curious that I'm going to pick a copy up today. I'll post a review once I've played it for a while.
I've heard nothing but complaints about SWG. Even an online friend of mine who did nothing but praise it and had an website with a countdown for it admits that it is a complete mess right now and not worth the time or money to play.
I don't have any experience with it, but I'm not looking for a SW based Everquest anyways. Planetside is enough and I haven't even been able to play that this week!

The people I know who are playing it are saying it is pretty darned good. Of course all I and they are realy interested in is the combat and not crafting or anything.
Ray and Tom here are having a blast with the game. No complaints at all from them, there are some problems with group XP and some problems with making player run cities but since neither of them have any interest in being in an uber guild or obsessed with "being the best" they might have a different feeling than those that want other things.
It is no first person shooter. I have heard a lot of complaints about that since many people think "it has guns, you should have to aim and shoot (and strafe fight)." That is just not the case, it is very much like a standard MMORPG from what I hear.
It is actualy apealing to me. This weekend I am busy with family stuff and my final antibiotic treatment (that makes me sick to my stomach) so I am no hurry to pick it up. I assume most of the biggest bugs will be cleared up shortly.
Remember how much work was needed on PS after release. Tom, who played Anarchy Online, said that this go-live was far far better executed than that disaster.
