I have satellite and Tivo, FWIW. You might say I'm doubly blessed by the land-line gods.

DirecTivo plus I have DSL through COVAD. (although having a land line phone service with Verizon for DSL is no longer mandatory). BTW, depending on the TiVO unit, you can do your updates over your broadband connection without a land line now.
