I would have to wait until they allowed for streaming of MP3's, as well as addition inputs so you could feed your satellite dish/cable feed into so it would act as a big DVR.
Here is a very low detailed way to 'do it yourself'
put together a series of Shuttle XPC machines. One of which has a ATI HD-TV tuner and a 400gb Hard-drive. Set it up with Windows XP Media Center edition and you have yourself a 'media center' You can then have lesser boxes with A/V Audio out with a basic configuration to allow network streaming of data files to your other audio/video based room's in the house.
If anyone is interested in a higher detail version. I'll hook you guys up.
But it can be done with both Linux/Windows and some basic networking for alot less then 30k. But it won't be as pretty.
I was just at a convention for that and it is so far the best system around. I will have to tell them about your idea of looping all that stuff through thier system and see if they have it as an upgrade. Gibson is comming out with something similar but it is for CD you load your CD's in and it records it as an .wma file and you have a remote that has a LCD display of the album cover and what song is playing. It is not released to the genral public yet. I am trying to get on their dealer list. Later on they plan on turning it into something similar to the Ipod.
