In North Carolina they're are looking at Miles Driven Taxes... with a yearly odometer reading tax or even a high-tech GPS driven system in which you are taxed for the miles driven and the roads driven on. Nice.

Although I agree with the assessment, the fact that so many "demand" so much from their government these days that politicians really have little choice. They either tax and spend or they get creamed for not "caring" about the children, poor, lazy, etc.
We see it here in the Lehigh Valley. People from NYC moved out here because of the lower cost of living and affordable real estate, then start demanding all these services from the local and state governments. Guess what that does to local and state taxes? People create their own problems.
People don't care that the government isn't a bottomless money pit... they want their nanny government and they want it now!!
I only hope that the Republican party returns to it's 'roots' of small government and fiscal responsibility. But I won't be holding my breath...
