I'm kind of with Nuts on this. New players are at enough disadvantage already, by not knowing the game as well. On top of that, you have crappy gear and yet even more disadvantage. Sounds like I'll be watching the waiting to spawn screen a lot..

One thing that made BF:1942 was that your skilled dictated you kill/death ratio. In BF:2 Dice started this reward business. This led to folks attempting to cheat the system so that they could get the better weapons, special shiny medals, etc. The reward business also locked a bunch of the public servers as custom maps and mods were prohibited if you wanted to use your unlocked weapons. This whole thing seriously hurt their relationship with a highly dedicated fanbase (which was quite loyal thanks in part to the DC mod).

So now, Dice is back and they haven't learned their lesson. IMO the unlocks based on skill give an unfair advantage to the casual gamer like me. This is why L4D works well... it's an even playing ground for everyone. The only thing that should make it easier for you to kill me or vice versa is skill... not the fact that you play 80 hours a week.

What's the point of going Engineer if I can't use a freaking wrench. Are armies now sending busboys to war without going to school first?

I agree, but its give you something to work towards. I think once we have our AK server running, we can train and skill up each other without other unknown peeps. Pub skill up is hard.

Are they allowing private servers to impact skill/rank?

Nuts, I agree kinda but a total of 6 hrs of play over a 3 week period is not much really and you will be able to take anyone out. When I started the beta late and everyone was way ahead of me and I still kicked ass. Its still about skill bro dont be so negative in that respect. But that aspect of the MMO in a BF2 formate would be awesome

They are not private servers in that you can host yourself. You have to rent the servers from a Dice cerftified hosting company. I think the going rate is $1.25 per month per slot.

I'm really enjoying playing this game. I had a blast last night with Kidd, Camel, and Squidly.

I had a lot of fun last night too. I'm using my time with nerf gear to really learn the mechanics of the game and how to play it. Learn the maps. Try all of the various engineering kits and armor loadouts (there's a LOT of them.)

I don't mind the earned progression through the items - in fact the goals give me a sense of satisfaction when I "earn" a new item.

The "private" server will mean that we can control who gets to stay and ensure that we always have enough slots for all of us to play together. We can also modify the rules and map rotation to suit our needs. And yes, we will get points from playing on our own server.

I just posted over on the iRacing forums - there are literally about 15 people posting on "mouse" issues with the game and I told them that they MUST remove their wheels before playing!

This is a really "stupid" issue with this game. It's uncalled for that a joystick or other device screws up your mouse.

Last night my buddy was getting frustrated and I was trying to help him with in game chat while playing. I told him to take his wheel off and try again.. after about 30 minutes he was irate because it was working before. I asked him if he disconnected his wheel, and he said yes. Then, knowing he has a secondary set of $700 pedals, I asked him if he disconnected his pedals. FIXED the problem. I guess I should have been clear when I said disconnect his wheel to disconnect the pedals too.

But, the best I can figure is that when he started playing, he was OK but must have hit the pedals or something while playing or setting controls that caused his problems.

Is there a way to 'wipe out' all configuration for joystick for when you are on foot?

Yeah, I'm with Squidly on the achievement/MMO aspects of the game. Gives me something to work towards each time I play. (Although I agree that it's idiotic to make the engies and medics earn the things that define their class identities.) Can't wait to jump back on tonight.

I started playing last night. I am still having an issue with the friends list and server history window not populating. I cant see friend requests, nor do others see my requests i send.

    Any ideas?

I am able to play and get onto servers, all other aspects of the game appear to be working fine for me.

    1. Power on PC.
    2. Lean over and unplug your steering wheel and pedals.
    3. Start Battlefield BC 2.
    4. Enjoy.

Maybe it's the leaning you are having an issue with.

I had the same medic "problem" as well regarding the defibs. For whatever reason they are setup as the third unlock for the class. The unlock progression is: medkit->2nd machine gun->defibs. I think they unlock at 5200 medit points, which is odd, as they were free in beta. Until I unlocked them hey had a skull and an RPG/40mm/C4 nonsense tag in the unselectable slot
Thanks for the info Fax, I will stick with it till the next unlock!

    No.. here's a simple example.

I plug in joystick because I want to fly copter / Drone - I can't, because then my mouse won't work properly! I'm trying to find out if there is a way to completely clear out 'joystick' controls from the 'on foot' section.

I was considering buying a joystick just to fly choppers in BC2. It seems I will hold off for awhile until all issues are fully resolved.

In the meantime, I'll stick with the UAV. Luckily it's somewhat straight forward when using keyboard/mouse.
