    Droid 2

So I finally got around to a new phone, scrapping my POS razor for the new droid 2. The iPoop was out of the question, so the dicission was between the droid 2 or droid x. My main concern was keyboards, and the 2's KB is awesome. seriously, it feels nice. So I went with it, heck 30 day return policy right.

So the next day my buddy shows me how Swype works.. umm.. ya, i promise you swype will modernize keyboards (not just on phones) forever. Anyone know where I can get a 4x3 usb touch screen kb w/swype for my laptop?

So, in the end, I'm waiting on my Droid X to come in.. If only I had known as I had one in my hand the day before at a different store.

    LOL

First off - Sorry we didn't get to meet up at Musikfest! But we ended up leaving around 6:15 or so.

After testing and reviewing all the Verizon Android devices other than the Samsung Galaxy family - and its not certain which version will show up at Verizon, if any - I finally decided to order the X myself. I believe the current ship date is the 31st. I was thinking of holding off a few months to the 'Pro' and sister devices roll out, but I'm not a world traveler so having worldwide connectivity via dual band isnt crucial.

I'm in no hurry, as I'm hoping they release 2.2 for the X by then or around then. I don't feel like going from 2.2 which I'm now using on my Droid back to 2.1. Too many cool features in 2.2 I don't want to live without, even temporarily. Thankfully, this version variable issue should be greatly reduced with the Gingerbread (3.0) core design and the annual release schedule.

Sigh, my phone is limited to 1.6. But, if I pull the trigger on the new G2, rumor has it that it will come standard with 3.0. I'd love to be able to experience the full power of the newer versions of Android.

Unless the plan cost is going to somehow be higher on the G2, there's little reason not to upgrade. The money is in the plan - the $200 cost of the phone is only 10% the cost of ownership. Sometimes less.

Yeah, I will probably get it soon after it comes out. I tend to wait until the 18 month mark so I can get a discount. Kidd used my upgrade to get his MyTouch, so I will likely have to pay full price, which I'm guessing will be about $350. But, my G1 looks archaic next to all these shiny new Android devices, so my envy may win over my thriftiness.

Now that Froyo for X hit the net today, I really want my X to arrive. My wife, who has an old LG Voyager, is going to get my Droid. Adding the data plan at her company discount, minus what we pay for her texts, the added cost will be less than $10 a month.

Looks like I will be picking up a DroidX in October when my upgrade comes due with Verizon.

Ab - I "LOVE" mine. The 4.3" screen is the perfect size for me. I also picked up the media dock and the car mount. The car mount is greatly improved over the one I had for my original Droid. (Which my wife now had and loves. I've turned her into a Droid lover too.) The power adapter is part of the mount itself instead of plugging it into the phone.

So far the only complaint I have is waiting for Froyo to be released for it. I have a few custom ROMs sitting here - but I'm holding off until Moto / Verizon release the official one. Until then.. I'll just play some more angry birds I guess.

I'm very impressed with the camera and video on this.

If you need any help with anything, don't be afraid to give me a yell.

I ended up getting "stuck" with my Droid 2. Don't get me wrong, the phone's still really nice but i would have preferred the X. Apparently Go Wireless changed their policies just before the Droid X launch regarding extending return periods. Since they didn't have any X's in stock, they wouldn't honor the 30 day return policy. I called their corporate support as well as Verizon had neither could do anything for me. Bull Shit if you ask me, but whatever - still have a lot better phone than I had 2 months ago.

BTW - any good recommendations for an Outlook client for Android?

Looked at the Droidx at Verizon yesterday ... that's a big phone. I do like the nonslip surface on the back and sides. It will be going in a case pretty quickly anyway. The screen looks awesome.

I never put my phones in cases or put the protection screens on them anymore. In fact, I have an Invisible Shield I got free when I purchased my X and it's still sitting on my desk.

Surprisingly, I have no problems carrying the X in my pants pocket or in my shirt pocket. I thought when I first saw it that it would be a bit awkward, but I've had no problems with that at all.

I have my iPhone 4 in a bumper and carry it around in a sunglasses pouch. No invisible shield or anything else like that.

Haven't even dropped the thing once (thank god).

DoubleTwist: they just updated to include internet radio and is awesome beyond compare.

EBay: buy a kit for batteries, cables, cases charges. Buy lots of cables and spread around.

I second that question. I really just need it to sync calendars locally with Outlook, but something that could actually contact my Exchange server (through OWA or any other method) would be a HUGE plus. iPhone/iPod Touches can do it--why not Droids?
